Students create electronic portfolios:

  • Student artists, with a digital camera, or other imaging device, document their finished art work and post to a school web page/gallery or other publishing venue.
  • Utilize the district resources for storing and producing an electronic collection of works throughout thier high school years.

Excel:

  • The use of a spreadsheet program in maintaining art supply budgets both at the classroom level and the department level.

PowerPoint

  • Create presentations of lessons to help students with missed work and art demonstrations.
  • Include student art work examples in powerpoint presentations to direct and motivate student learning
  • Incorporate student assistance in the development of the art power point presentations.
 

Moodle project:

  • Use this distance learning program to develop and deliver educational content specific to the study of art history.
  • Use Moodle project to teach a collaborative between a language arts teacher and a visual arts teacher on visual journals.
 
 
  • Using a digital camera students document a demonstrated art lesson as visual note taking.  It is played back the next day as a review of the materials or as make up work.
 
 

YouTube video:

  • Teacher searches for videos that can be used as demonstration to teach a kinetic skill, for instance throwing on the wheel.
  • Students research at the home computers for video suggestions that can be shared in the classroom setting.  These suggestions would have to be previewed by teacher for appropriate classroom use.

DVD viewers:

  • After recording demonstrations and producing DVD that supplement the information and direction of a lesson, the DVD viewers are used for students to review the materials for greater understanding or for missed work.

Web site as instruction:

  • The web site National Gallery of Art with a link to the collage machine (nga.cov/kids/zone/collagemachine.htm) has an interactive collage program that is used to present background material for the teaching of collage.

Document readers (Elmo):

  • Document readers utilized to present example of 2-d art work, current work of other artist, and the work in progress of students.
  • Document readers used as a presentation of student work to assist them in presenting their own art work as part of a critiquing process

Science Scavenger Hunt

  • Students are given a list of scientific concepts to find (erosion, weathering)
  • Students fill out the Scavenger Hunt worksheet, recording Lat & Lng, Elevation, description of the concept
  • Students take a digital picture of the item for documentation
  • Students use Google Earth to pinpoint locations on a map, and insert images to illustrte the concept. They also type a short narration explaining the concept.
