Billings The Magic City

How Did We Get Here?

From a tent town located on the banks of the Yellowstone river to an urban sprawl, Billings got its nickname, The Magic City, because it seemingly grew overnight into the largest distribution center in Montana. Our city was shaped by such characters as the gun-toting Calamity Jane, famous army scout Yellowstone Kelly, and Pacific Railroad President Fredrick Billings. There are many people who are not celebrated in any history books, but who are also an important part of what Billings is today. They are members of our families.

This website is a story about our city, woven by several Billings teachers. In these pages you will find stories about famous people, our families, famous landmarks, events and you can even take a virtual tour.

As The Magic City is not done growing, neither is our tale.
