Dull Knife |
| Northern Cheyenne leaders Dull Knife (Morning Star) and Little Wolf are famous for defying the U.S. Army in daring escapes from Oklahoma prison camps in 1878. They lead a group of mostly old men, women and children hundreds of miles on the long march north to their homeland in Montana. Many people died. Dull Knife said, "We cannot stay another year; we want to go now, before another year has passed, we may all be dead, and there will be none of us left to travel north." They did not care if the soldiers killed them, they said they would rather die going north than to die like dogs in the prison camp. | |
