Time Lapse of Butterfly Transformation

The poem above was created by Ahnna Parson to go along with her butterfly unit.  During her shared reading she was able to review the reading strategies of "getting their mouths ready" and "checking the pictures."  She will also be teaching the words:  looked, looking, and where.  To the right is a copy that can be downloaded to give children individual copies.  Students can highlight sight words and can then take home or put in a poetry binder.
Brainstorming words is a good way to work on vocabulary and letter sounds in this modeled writing activity from Carol Russell's room.
After discussing symmetry, Lori Paulson's students made symmetrical artwork and interactively wrote the rules of symmetry.
Doretta Lambert's class made a word bubble to illustrate what a butterfly might say.

Celeste Peel's class used interactive writing and the pictures from the science kit to label the life cycle of the butterfly.
