Name Charts

Name Charts are a valuable tool in a balanced literacy classroom. The teacher can utilize the name chart as a spelling tool while using modeled, shared, and interactive writing. This can be done by highlighting letters, chunks, and digraphs with markers, highlighting tape or Wikki Sticks. Children will use the strategies they have learned from the teachers modeling in their own reading and writing.

Note: Children's names should go on the name chart... not the word wall.

Name Charts

Dianne Lundhagen adds pictures to her name chart.

The name charts in this picture are from Hillary Gnerer and Jami Holton's classroom.  They are laminated so a   dry erase marker can be used to highlight chunks and letters  being worked on during interactive writing or shared reading.

Claudia Decker made this name chart by enlarging text on her computer, gluing it on tag board and then laminating it.

Susan Mettler uses sentence strips in a sentence chart for her name chart.
