Saturday Live 2010 - September 25, 2010
With record temperatures and record revenues, how could we ask for a better day for Saturday Live 2009?! A huge thank you goes out to the members of our community, who joined us on this beautiful day at Pioneer Park to show support for our schools!
It is a day to remember, beginning at dawn with weary eyed school groups arriving to set up and enthusiastic volunteers putting on the finishing touches to ready Pioneer Park for the day. The 3rd annual Saturday Live Fun Run kicked off at 9 a.m. with 74 runners dashing around the park in a two mile competition. The ticket sellers took their places and the carnival began promptly at 10 a.m. Over twenty decorated scarecrows stood watch over the respective schools. Both children and adults partook in the festivities from petting exotic pets, bouncing around in summo wrestling attire, slurping frozen slushees, listening to great music on stage, and participating in some of the 100 other activities offered.
This year school groups raised a record $107,000 and the Education Foundation netted $46,000 to support our growing number of programs, including Classroom Grants, Partners in Education, Reading Rocks, as well as teacher and student scholarships.
The proceeds raised by the school groups will go toward funding a variety of causes including updating technology for classrooms, classroom books, sound systems for music departments, library books, field trips, and student scholarships for activities. Saturday Live is often a school's biggest fundraiser each year.
Thank you Billings!
